Question

Help all you doll makeover enthusiast. I remember seeing, not long ago, someone put the cutest freckles on one of their dolls. I tried to do a search to no avail. Does anyone know what is used to paint on the freckles?
Thanks,

I don't know what one is "supposed" to use, but I used Acrylic Paint, in 2 different brown colors (941 Acorn Brown and 959 English Mustard ((I only made a few with the latter))from Michael's, brand Folk Art), that I watered down, and painted them on with a very, very small brush (for the larger ones), and a toothpick (for the smaller ones).

Here is a "How to" guide, but I think once you start on it, you don't really need a guide.

It's really fun, and very hard to mess up as you can whipe them off if you don't like the way they look. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Awesome! I'm ready to try.
Thank you,
BTW: That's a cute doll (& daughter) I'm assuming it is a "My Twinn."

I have also done freckling using the guide Cami posted (also with a My Twinn) . . . the results look professional. I ended up putting freckles on more than one doll, even though I only planned to do one. And I'm surprised I didn't continue to my own face.

For the color, I tried to match the doll's hair, but with a bit lighter shade.

Have fun!

I've been wanting this information, Cami -- thank you! One question -- do you think you would use a different color paint for a red-haired doll? I'm seriously thinking about getting an AGT with red hair and turning her into Anne of Green Gables (my favorite book heroine ever).

TIA

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The link I provided is not mine, I got it here months ago, but I can't remember who posted it.

The brown colors I listed were the ones I used on my red-head doll.

I took some pictures, but it was really hard to get the freckles to show up right, thanks to too much or too little light.

Ignore the curlers, lol!

I think Melissa's advice of a few shades lighter than the hair is dead on. Obviously it's harder to do that with red hair, , but I do think the colors I used were a bit "orangey brown", which I think look very realistic with the hair color. Let me know if I can be of anymore help .

Edit because I used the wrong photobucket tag.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Taffy, I can't believe you mentioned the Freckle Crayon again! LOL, I was looking through old posts recently, and came across the one where you mentioned it, and realized again how much I want one. You didn't buy the one at Saks recently, did you? We don't have one here, but if it's there, it ought to be at the bigger makeup chains, like Sephora or Ulta.

Nevermind Sephora, the only things they have are things to lighten freckles.

Two of the dolls I've freckled are redheads. I used a very light orangish brown that is almost the color of the wig, but lighter. I know that sounds like an odd color, but my mom was a natural redhead (it has gotten darker as she got older) who still has freckles all over her arms, and they're almost a pink or red color.

I think doll artists tend to stick to tame browns, but if you know a natural redhead (with orange-red hair) who has freckles, the freckles are pretty bright and reddish.

The paints Cami mentioned are usually really inexpensive (often $1!), so you could get one or two and do some test freckles on a piece of paper to see if they look okay. It's a really inexpensive project and is lots of fun.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Doing a search on the web I discovered that Lanc?me Paris only offered 2,400 of the Freckles Crayon in 2003. They sold out in short order. I got mine in January of 2003.

The only "freckle" product now offered by Lanc?me Paris is their freckle remover/concealer.

Interesting fact: Freckles, which are known as ephelides by scientific types, are caused by the melanocortin-1-receptor -- the major freckle gene.
